About the leaves of Californian Lilac, they bring a year-round interest to the garden. Their glossy, ovate deep-green leaves with hairy undersides will ensure your garden feels full of life even during the winter months.

These medium-sized evergreen plants will grow to a height of 1.5 metres, provided the optimum growing conditions are met.

Instructions

Top Tip

Provide a support to train the plant for more structured, formal appearance.

How to Water

Water regularly during the first few growing seasons. After this, ceanothus is drought tolerant and only needs to be watered during particularly dry spells. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings.

How to Plant

Choose a sheltered spot out of strong winds and plant ceanothus in full sun in well-draining soil. Dig a hole around twice as wide as the root ball and position the plant so the top of the root ball is at soil level. Backfill with soil and compost, gently firm down, and water in well.
