Product description

Ceanothus ‘Yankee Point’ is a popular California Lilac shrub with vigorous spreading habit. It forms a perfect mounding bush, smothered in bright deep blue flowers from late spring until early summer. It is a neat ornamental shrub commonly planted Ceanothus variety in California.

It will demand enough space in your garden, as it spreads covering ground quickly. It is grown for its beautiful display of blue flowers that are very pretty and attract bees. It forms a perfect mound of glossy oval leaves that provide year-round interest. This California Lilac is suitable for coastal areas.

Yankee Point shrubs can withstand more water and clay than other California Lilac varieties. Plant them in sun near coastal areas, or inland in a sheltered location with dappled, afternoon shade. The foliage and flowers will need shelter from cold harsh winds.

Pruning this fast-growing bush will be necessary to give it a handsome appearance. Sheer with a hedging trimmer but avoid chopping the stems.

Instructions

Top Tip

Provide a support to train the plant for more structured, formal appearance.

How to Water

Water regularly during the first few growing seasons. After this, ceanothus is drought tolerant and only needs to be watered during particularly dry spells. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings.

How to Plant

Choose a sheltered spot out of strong winds and plant ceanothus in full sun in well-draining soil. Dig a hole around twice as wide as the root ball and position the plant so the top of the root ball is at soil level. Backfill with soil and compost, gently firm down, and water in well.
