Product description

Buddleia Royal Red is a deciduous shrub that blooms excellent clusters of magenta-red flowers in spring and summer. These are easy-to-grow and hardy flowering plants that are meant to create a dazzling show of colours. Buddleia plants give out a sweet strong honey-scented fragrance that lures butterflies, bees, bumblebees and even hummingbirds!

These red-purple Butterfly bushes are hardy shrubs, able to withstand severe climatic conditions. They prefer full sun to partial shade and thrive in acidic soil that is moist and well-drained. To retain moisture, simply add a layer of mulch with contents of pine barks to the base of the plant.

Separating the faded flower heads will inspire the blooming process. Buddleia bush produces arched stems that hold narrow green leaves. Magenta-red flowers look fabulous shining bright on these leaves. Plant this bush near the pool or in the patio area.

Use them as flower borders or simply let them illuminate your pretty flower garden in the spring. Once established these shrubs will not demand much care, make sure to protect them from cold winds though.

They will quickly grow to a height of about 1.2 metres in a compact rounded manner. This makes Buddleia a perfect robust flowering plant. Pruning is required to keep the plant in its proper shape and size.

Combine Buddleia Royal Red with other butterfly bushes to turn your wildflower garden into a colourful floral show.

Instructions

Top Tip

Deadhead spent blooms to encourage a second flush of flowers.

How to Water

Water young plants regularly for the first year or so until they are fully established. After this, buddleias should only need to be watered during particularly dry spells.

How to Plant

For the best show of flowers, plant buddleia in a sheltered spot in full sun. Ensure the soil drains well and dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Dig in some garden compost and position the plant, placing the top of the root ball just below soil level. Backfill with soil and compost and water in well.
