Product description

“Tarentina” is a dense, evergreen shrub of a smaller stature. Its foliage is composed of petite leaves that are both aromatic and of a glossy, dark-green colour. The leaves are small and only reach around 2-3 cm in length.

White and pink buds develop and explode into dainty white flowers with touches of pink. The flowers are mostly without a scent and are followed in autumn months by small white berries that are spherical in shape.

Tolerates most soils and prefers to be in full sun. As it is a relatively compact shrub, it does well in containers and also in sheltered spots in your garden. It is frost hardy, but will need protection from excessive colder winter temperatures and winds.

Other suggestions for use include using as a divider or a low hedge. In addition, it is well utilised for areas in a courtyard or a sunny cottage setting. Since it is an evergreen, it lends itself well to accompanying areas where other annuals or deciduous plants will leave the area bare or brown in winter. People also use the plant in cooking, especially for wild game.

Instructions

Top Tip

Prune Myrtus plants after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth.

How to Water

Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, Myrtus is moderately drought-tolerant but benefits from deep watering during dry spells, especially in hot climates.

How to Plant

Plant Myrtus in well-draining soil with full sun or partial shade. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and slightly deeper. Place the plant, fill with soil, and press gently to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch to retain moisture.
