Product description

Hypericum 'Magical Universe' is an attractive deciduous or semi-evergreen bushy shrub with long ovate deep green leaves that produces an aroma when crushed. In spring, long red stems begin producing yellow flower heads that bloom into gorgeous star-shaped flowers, each flower is accompanied by a prominent tuft of golden stamens. Later in the year, the flowers are followed by large elongated red berries, providing a nice contrast with the green leaves and yellow flowers.

Commonly known as St. Johns Wort, this variety is compact and low growing, making it ideal for a border, rock garden or as an attractive hedge. This plant loves sunlight, so place in an area that gets plenty of light or partial shade, it can be planted in any soil so long as it is moist and well drained. The flowers can also be cut when mature and look great as part of a display or bouquet.

Instructions

Top Tip

Prune Hypericum in early spring to remove dead or damaged growth and encourage a dense, bushy shape.

How to Water

Water Hypericum deeply, keeping the soil consistently moist during the growing season. Once established, it is somewhat drought-tolerant but benefits from regular watering during dry spells.

How to Plant

Plant Hypericum in well-draining soil with full to partial sun. Space the plants 45-60cm apart. Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball, place the plant, and backfill with soil. Water thoroughly after planting.
