Product description
Black Beauty Aubergine seeds are a great choice for a long-lasting, reliable crop. These bushy annual plants flower in early summer, with the blooms developing into large dark purple-near black aubergines. The fruits are oval to globe shaped and reach up to 12cm in length with glossy skins protecting the flavoursome creamy-coloured flesh inside.
Also known as Eggplants, Aubergines are low in calories yet bursting with goodness, including plenty of fibre and vitamins A and C, which are excellent antioxidants. Aubergines are perfect for adding to Mediterranean dishes and can be grilled, steamed, stir-fried, deep-fried, or roasted to make a tasty side dish.
Grow in a sunny sheltered spot in moist but well-draining soil. As annuals, Aubergines don’t fare well in extremely cold temperatures so start early crops under glass and harden seedlings before planting them out. Use a high potash tomato feed to help boost crops and pick regularly to promote new flowers and a longer harvest.
Sow indoors from February to May or outdoors from March to April. Plant seedlings out from May to June, allowing 90cm between plants and 120cm between rows. Harvest from July to October.
