The Calathea Surprise Star possesses some very bold foliage colouring that shows itself off very well within an indoor setting, whether that be as part of an indoor plant display or on its own. The colour palette of the leaves includes both black and deep pink shades that form in a beautiful formation throughout each leaf. The Rose Painted Calathea, as its more commonly known, will appreciate being placed in any area other than in view of direct sunlight, as this will affect the leaves further down the line. Water the plant on a bi-weekly basis and mist the plant in the periods between this, ensuring you never allow the plant to sit in water for any length of time.

Rotate the pot weekly to encourage even growth, as the leaves naturally orient toward light sources. Wipe the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and maintain their vibrant patterns.
How to Water
Water Calathea consistently to keep the soil moist but not soggy. During the growing season (spring and summer), water when the top inch of soil feels dry, and reduce watering in autumn and winter. Use distilled or rainwater if possible, as Calathea is sensitive to chemicals in tap water. Avoid letting the plant sit in standing water, and empty the saucer after watering to prevent root rot. Mist the leaves regularly to maintain humidity, especially in dry environments.
How to Plant
To plant Calathea, select a pot with drainage holes and use a peat-based potting mix that retains moisture but drains well.
