Top Tip
Clean the leaves of your Aspidistra regularly to remove dust and keep them looking their best. Use a damp cloth to gently wipe each leaf, as this also helps the plant absorb light more effectively. Avoid placing the plant in direct sunlight, as it can scorch the foliage. For long-lasting growth, feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser once a month during spring and summer.
How to Water
Water your Aspidistra sparingly, as it is drought-tolerant and prefers slightly dry conditions between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure the soil dries out slightly before watering again. During the growing season, water more frequently, but reduce watering in winter. Use lukewarm water to avoid shocking the plant and pour it directly into the soil, keeping the leaves dry to prevent fungal issues.
How to Plant
To plant an Aspidistra, choose a shady spot with well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. This hardy plant thrives in low light conditions, making it ideal for indoor settings or shaded garden corners. If growing in a pot, use a good-quality potting mix and a container with drainage holes. When transplanting, ensure the root ball is level with the soil surface, and avoid burying the crown. Firm the soil gently around the plant and water thoroughly to settle it.
