Product description
Reaching up to 1.5m tall, these Blue Lake Climbing French Bean seeds produce heavy yields of gourmet beans throughout the season. The medium-green beans are pencil-shaped, stringless, tender, and have a sweet flavour that makes them an excellent side dish. They freeze well for cooking throughout the year, and mature beans can be shelled to uncover white seed beans that can be used as haricot beans in winter.
Blue Lake is a climbing variety of French Bean, so it needs a trellis or net to grow up. They are ideal for growing in pots and containers and are easy to look after. Plant in a sheltered, sunny spot in moist but well-draining soil and water regularly during dry spells.
Sow these French Bean seeds indoors from April to May or outside from May to June. Plant seedlings out from late May when the risk of frost has passed, allowing 20cm between plants and providing a net or trellis for the plants to climb. Harvest from July to September, picking regularly to encourage further crops.
