Product description
Edamame beans are low maintenance and easy to grow, producing hefty yields of bright green pods. These pods can be boiled or steamed then shelled to reveal the flavoursome beans inside. Edamama is the name given to young soya beans. They have a slightly nutty flavour and a creamy texture, not unlike broad beans. Use them to add protein to salads and stews or serve them up as a tasty snack.
While Edamame seeds can be started off under glass, it saves time and effort to sow them directly into their growing spot. Sow 2-3 seeds together with spacing of around 20cm and leave approximately 45cm between rows. Edamames are climbing plants so benefit from a trellis or cane to grow up. Pick pods regularly whenever they feel plump to promote further cropping. Pods can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days before they start to lose flavour.
Grow in a sheltered, sunny spot and water regularly, particularly during dry spells. Protect agasinst frost and compost spent plants at the end of the growing season.
