Product description

Hurst Green Shaft is an incredibly easy pea to grow, so much so that you’ll wonder why you didn’t start to grow your own peas years ago. As one of the most popular pea varieties, Hurst Green Shaft is extremely reliable, producing a heavy crop during the summer months. Each long green pod holds an average of 9-10 peas.

These peas are best enjoyed fresh from the pod. However, they freeze well so the high yield can be easily preserved for cooking throughout the year. They are bursting with goodness including plenty of nutrients such as folic acid, Pro-Vitamin A and Vitamins C and B1.

Growing to a maximum height of up to 75cm, these annual outdoor plants last for one harvesting season. They prefer a sheltered, sunny spot in moist but well-draining soil and benefit from netting to climb up. Picking pea pods regularly helps encourage a continuous crop.

Sow indoors from February to March or outdoors from April to May. Plant seedlings out from May to June, allowing 10cm between plants and 60cm between rows. Harvest from July to September.
