Penstemon is a herbaceous perennial plant that brings its compact growth habit to proceedings from the glossy, dark green foliage and tubular flowers which produce gorgeous colours. The style of the flowers are formed through the throat-like look of them, making the appearance very unique and eye-catching to look at. Penstemon should be planted in moist, well-drained soil and kept in full sun at the best of times. Watering the plant should be done regularly, with warmer weather conditions seeing that level increase to cope with the temperature rise.

How to Water
Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid overhead watering to prevent mildew and root rot. Ensure good drainage, as penstemon dislikes sitting in wet soil.
How to Plant
Plant penstemon in well-drained, sandy or loamy soil in a sunny location. Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the root ball, and place the plant level with the surrounding soil. Space plants about 45cm apart to allow for growth.
