Product description

Pumpkin 'Jack O' Lantern' is a classic pumpkin variety known for its medium to large, bright orange fruits that are perfect for carving and cooking. This variety is a popular choice for Halloween decorations, thanks to its smooth, round shape and thick flesh that holds up well to carving. In addition to its decorative uses, the sweet, dense flesh of 'Jack O' Lantern' pumpkins is ideal for pies, soups, and roasting, making it a versatile addition to any vegetable garden.

To grow Pumpkin 'Jack O' Lantern', start by sowing the seeds indoors from April to May, planting them 2.5cm deep in seed compost. Once the seedlings have developed and the risk of frost has passed, transplant them outdoors from late May to June. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained, fertile soil, and space the plants 100cm apart to allow room for their vigorous growth. Regular watering and feeding with a balanced vegetable fertiliser will support healthy development and fruit production.

Pumpkins require consistent care throughout the growing season to ensure a bountiful harvest. Water the plants regularly, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil moist. Mulching around the plants can help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. As the pumpkins begin to mature, reduce watering to allow the skins to harden, which is essential for storage. Harvest the pumpkins from September to October when they have turned fully orange and the skin is tough. With proper care, 'Jack O' Lantern' will provide a rewarding crop of beautiful and delicious pumpkins, perfect for autumn celebrations and culinary creations.
