Product description

Scabiosa atropurpurea 'Oxford Blue' is a hardy annual that produces captivating deep blue, pincushion-like flowers on tall, slender stems. The unique flower form and vibrant color make it a standout addition to garden borders, cottage gardens, and as a long-lasting cut flower for arrangements. This variety is particularly attractive to pollinators, helping to boost biodiversity in your garden while adding an elegant splash of blue to your outdoor spaces.

Sow Scabiosa 'Oxford Blue' seeds indoors from February to April, or directly outdoors from April to May, depending on the weather and your garden's location. For indoor sowing, use seed trays filled with compost, lightly cover the seeds, and keep the trays in a warm, bright spot. Transplant the seedlings outdoors from May to June, after the risk of frost has passed, choosing a sunny, well-drained spot in the garden. Space the plants about 30cm apart to give them room to grow and flourish.

Harvest the blooms from June to September, regularly cutting flowers to encourage the plant to continue producing new buds. This not only extends the flowering season but also provides a continuous supply of fresh flowers for your home. Ensure the plants are watered regularly, particularly during dry spells, and consider mulching around the base to retain soil moisture. Scabiosa 'Oxford Blue' is a low-maintenance plant that rewards gardeners with months of stunning flowers, making it an excellent choice for both novice and experienced gardeners.
