Commonly known as Autumn Joy, Sedum Herbstfreude is a popular choice for creating late season interest. Around mid-summer, the succulent green foliage blooms clusters of tiny green-pink flower buds, which morph to rose pink before turning darker pink and eventually a striking shade of copper brown before fading. Flower heads can be cut back to maintain shape or left to provide added interest in the winter months.
Sedum Herbstfreude is a fully hardy clump forming perennial and can withstand cold temperatures to around -20°C. It is incredibly easy to grow and requires very little attention to maintain good health and an attractive appearance. This plant prefers a sunny, preferably south facing spot and will reach full maturity in 2-5 years.
Bees, butterflies and other pollinators find the tiny flowers irresistible and they can be used to provide colour and interest to flower beds, borders and containers as other flowers begin to fade away.
