Product description

Sunflower 'Double Sun King' is a stunning variety known for its large, double, golden-yellow blooms that can grow up to 2 metres tall. These majestic sunflowers are ideal for adding height and a vibrant splash of colour to your garden. Their robust stems support the heavy flowers, making them a perfect choice for creating a striking focal point in borders or as a backdrop in mixed flower beds. The blooms are not only beautiful but also long-lasting, making them excellent for cut flower arrangements.

To grow Sunflower 'Double Sun King,' sow the seeds from March to May. You can sow them directly into well-prepared soil where they are to flower, or start them off in pots under glass for an earlier display. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out or transplant them to their final growing positions, spacing them about 45cm apart. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with fertile, well-drained soil to ensure the best results. Regular watering and support stakes will help these tall plants thrive.

Harvest the flowers from July to September when they are fully open and at their most vibrant. The blooms can be cut and enjoyed indoors or left on the plant to attract pollinators. As the season progresses, the flower heads will produce seeds that can be harvested and dried for bird feed or saved for sowing the following year, ensuring that your garden is filled with these magnificent sunflowers year after year.
