Product description
Sorrel’s red-veined green leaves will bring an ornamental feature to your garden with added value in cooking. Its edible foliage has a tangy taste with a tinge of citrus, and is a fantastic addition to salads when young, but can also be cooked like spinach when mature.
Since the leaves remain throughout Spring, Summer and Autumn, the Sorrel Leaf will almost always be in season and ready for picking. Regular picking will encourage the plant to release new leaves.
In culinary use, it will taste fantastic in a salad that needs an acidic bite to cut through, in a gazpacho soup or in a sauce served with chicken or fish - especially salmon. It makes an excellent homemade pesto ingredient, or colourful garnish to beautify your dishes.
Make sure to water the Sorrel plant regularly, especially during hot spells of weather. It’ll enjoy a spot with direct sunlight or partial shade. The top growth of this perennial will die back in Autumn, but new, fresh growth will appear again in Spring. If you don’t want the plant running to seed, cut out the flowers as they appear.
Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only - The plant will be supplied in a growers pot.
Garden Plant Size Guide
Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.
