What do you look for in an industrial weed killer? Maybe that's a silly question - because ultimately what everyone wants is something that kills weeds quickly, right?

There is a bit more to it than that, though. A professional weed control solution needs to be reliable and consistent, and you need to know exactly what it's going to kill. Some industrial weed killers require qualified personnel, and are not recommended for unsupervised or domestic use - so you need to know what you are looking for.

That's where we can help. In this blog we are going to be taking a look at the best industrial strength weed killers available, and how they differ from each other. There isn't a one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to weed killers, so have a look through our list and decide which one is most suited to your needs. We'll finish off with some top tips on using weed killers, so you can get the job done right every time.

Gallup Weed Killer XL

Gallup XL is an industrial weed killer - which means it's very strong and powerful. This makes it ideal for landscaping projects, as well as garden use, but as it is a non-selective weed killer, you need to be careful where you spray it. If you are close to plants or grass that you don't want to lose, be aware that any spray drift could put them in danger, so plan accordingly.

It's made with glyphosate, and it will attack most types of garden variety weeds, as well as annual and perennial grasses. Once absorbed into the root system, it will kill weeds quickly and effectively. The process should take around two weeks, at which point you'll be able to see the impact.

This is a weed killer concentrate - before use dilute by mixing 20ml with 1 litre of water.

Rosate 360

Rostate is another industrial strength weed killer concentrate (using the exact same ratio as Gallup XL - 20ml to 1L). It gets the '360' part of it's name because it contains 360g of glyphosate in every litre. Again, this is a powerful, professional weed control solution, which targets the root system, and it will prevent regrowth.

It's a direct competitor of Gallup XL, targeting annual and perennial weeds and grass, and is suitable for a range of different situations like agriculture, forestry, aquatic and horticulture. It works really well on hard surfaces, which makes it great for drives or pathways.

Both of these products are best suited to large areas.

Amenity 360 Weedkiller

There are plenty of similarities between this one and the others we've looked at. As you may have already guessed, we're looking at 360g of glyphosate per litre again, and again it will target annual and perennial grasses, as well as most broad leaved weeds. It's a non selective weed killer again, which means your plants and grass that you want to keep may be at risk, so if you use this weed killer, avoid spraying anything you want to keep.

This formula will be broken down in your soil in around two weeks - what this means is that you will be able to replant on that land and your new crops won't be impacted by this weed killer. All the affected areas will be back to normal - like a blank canvass.

Monsanto Roundup ProVantage 480

This Roundup product from Monsanto is the strongest industrial weed killer that we are looking at today, and we have looked at some strong weed killers! You'll have noticed that the concentration of glyphosate is higher here, 480ml per litre, making it an extremely powerful weedkilling solution.

This is the best industrial weed killer if you have some really resilient and tough weeds to deal with - like Japanese knotweed.

Despite being so strong, it's still considered to be non-hazardous, and has been approved for aquatic use. It will seep into the soil quickly, it only needs an hour without rain after application.

Top Tips for applying weed killer

The best tip we can give you is to carefully follow the instructions that come with every weed killer. That's the most important advice, as every weed killer, particularly industrial weed killers, will have a unique set of instructions, and you must follow them to keep you and your garden safe when applying such products.

The best time of year to apply weed killer is either the spring or summer - ideally when you can be confident that it isn't going to rain (and therefore wash the weedkiller into different areas). Also do not try to apply a weed killer on windy days. The wind will lift your spray and you can harm plants that you are trying to protect.

Be prepared to have to reapply weed killer if you don't get the desired results. That's why buying a concentrate can be a good idea, - you'll have plenty for repeat applications if they are needed.

Allow yourself plenty of time - this is not the sort of task you want to rush. If you make a mistake, things can get damaged.
