Product description
Rosa rugosa canina is commonly known as 'Dog Rose' it is an extremely popular UK native hedge that displays vibrant bright green foliage with light pink flowers that fade to white. These rose hips produce excellent winter feeding for wildlife and wild birds as they are filled with delicious seeds. Rosa also known as "Wild Briar" or "Wild Rose" is a very fast growing species with a rambling habit and as they are filled with thorns make an excellent barrier to keep intruders out.
Rosa rugosa canina will do fine in any type of soil and can be planted inland or in coastal areas. Dog Rose grows at around 1-2 feet per year but can be pruned to a manageable size of 1m high if required.

Top Tip
Dog rose hedges grow well in partial shade but for the best show of flowers, plant in full sun.
How to Water
Water well when planting and regularly for the first year, especially during hot weather. Once established, dog rose hedges should only need to be watered during particularly dry spells.
How to Plant
Choose a spot in full sun or partial shade and plant dog rose in moist, well-draining soil. Soak the roots while you dig a V-shaped trench, allowing plenty of space for the roots to spread out. You may wish to use a piece of string to ensure the trench is straight. Lightly trim the roots to promote fresh growth and position them in the trench, allowing 30-40cm between plants. It’s worth noting that plants spaced closer together will form a dense hedge quicker. Backfill the trench with soil and compost, firming down gently as you go, and water in well.
