Product description

Actaea pachypoda 'Misty Blue' also known as White Baneberry is a very hardy multi-stemmed herbaceous perennial shrub that grows clumped, broad green leaves with a hint of blue. High above the mounded foliage grow tall stems which, in the late Spring and into Summer, bear spikes of small cream-white flowers on small, red pedicels which fruit into large white berries tipped with black spots occasionally known as ‘Doll’s Eyes’.

Keep in moist, well-drained organic rich, fertile soils. Keep well-watered, especially in the Summer months when there is a risk of drying out. Grows best in partially or fully shaded damp areas. Keep sheltered from high winds as it is susceptible to frosts as well as dry winds.

Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. Ongoing plant maintenance within our nursery is essential, meaning some lines are pruned back at certain times of the year to encourage new growth.

Instructions

Top Tip

Be patient! Actaeas can take up to 3 years before they start flowering – but the blooms are certainly worth the wait.

How to Water

Water regularly until fully established then as necessary during dry spells to prevent the soil from drying out.

How to Plant

Choose a sheltered, partially shaded spot in moist but well-draining soil and clear the area of weeds. Dig a generous hole and add some well-rotted organic matter. Position the plant in the hole and backfill it with soil, forming down gently with your foot, then water in well.
