Product description

A lovely and compact deciduous to semi-evergreen sub-shrub sometimes known as Cape Mallow or African Mallow is a somewhat tender plant with hairy, lobed, incised green foliage and small to medium, pale pink flowers appearing from Summer through to Autumn. The flowers resemble Hibiscus with rich pink veining on each of the slightly overlapping petals. The flowers appear throughout the foliage as single blooms or loose panicles.

Plant in moist, well-drained soils and keep in full sun in a sheltered position or indoors under glass. A native of the warmer climes of Southern Africa, this plant is treated as more of a perennial in colder regions. Cold and frost may shorten its life if not cared for correctly.

Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may, therefore, differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. This plant will be supplied in a grower’s pot.

Instructions

Top Tip

Provide winter protection or move pot-grown anisodonteas indoors during the colder months of the year.

How to Water

Water regularly until established. After this, anisodontes only need to be watered during particularly dry spells.

How to Plant

Grow anisodontea in a sheltered spot in full sun in well-drained soil. Dig a generous hole and mix in some well-rotted organic matter before positioning the plant inside and backfilling with soil. Firm down gently using your foot and water the soil thoroughly.
