Product description

Athyrium filix-femina (the lady fern), is a large species of fern, native to the shaded woodlands of many countries in the northern hemisphere. This fern is clump-forming, producing a thick foliage of delicate, feather-like, green leaves which will die back in the autumn and show new growth the following spring. This plant is best suited to sheltered or shady areas.

Plant in moist, well drained, slightly acidic soil, in a sheltered position. Keep this plant out of direct sunlight, as it is prone to scorching.

Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may, therefore, differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. This plant will be supplied in a grower’s pot.

Instructions

Top Tip

Direct water towards the soil rather than the fronds to help prevent root rot.

How to Water

Water thoroughly until the roots are fully established and during particularly dry spells. Athyriums prefer damp conditions so don’t let the soil dry out.

How to Plant

These shade loving ferns thrive in full shade or partial shade and grow best in soil that is kept consistently moist but not waterlogged. Choose a sheltered spot and dig in plenty of organic matter before positioning the plant and backfilling the soil to the same level as it was in the pot. Firm down gently and water in well.
