Product description
Vaccinium 'Spartan' is a deciduous upright bushy shrub that yields heavy crops of blueberries in the summer. This variety has very attractive foliage, the leaves are deep green and glossy, they are accompanied by some delightful bell shaped white flowers which give off a pleasant aroma. 'Spartan' is one of the earliest ripening varieties for blueberries you're likely to find, as they ripen in July as opposed to further into autumn which is more common for blueberries. The fruits themselves are small but plentiful and are a light blue colour when fully ripened, perfect for snacking on or for making jams, tarts and juices. these plants prefer a fully open space in the garden that guarantees sunlight and they will thrive in well drained, slightly acidic soil. These bushes are self-pollinating but planting in groups will provide a higher yield of fruit.
Garden Plant Size Guide
Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Birds love blueberries, so protect your crops with netting, especially as they ripen.
How to Water
Keep blueberries well-watered, especially during the growing season. Avoid overwatering and use rainwater wherever possible.
How to Plant
Dig in plenty of acid-rich organic matter, such as pine needles and composted conifer bark, before planting blueberries in full sun in moist but well-draining soil. Choose a sheltered spot and bear in mind that while blueberries tolerate light shade, they provide more generous crops in full sun.
