Top Tip
Cut back after flowering to prevent self-seeding. If you’re happy for the plant to set seed, leave the flower heads in place until late winter to provide a valuable food source for birds.
How to Water
Water regularly throughout the growing season until fully established. After this, cirsium is drought tolerant and only needs to be watered during dry spells.
How to Plant
Choose an open site in full sun and plant cirsium in moist but well-draining soil. Dig a hole 2-3 times larger than the nursery pot and position the plant so the top of the root ball is at soil level. Backfill the hole with soil and compost, gently firm down, and water in well.
