Product description
Cornus alba ‘Elegantissima’ is a low maintenance deciduous shrub with an upright, bushy habit. In the summer, its foliage flaunts a fresh, bright green with cream-coloured variegation on the outside of the leaves - come autumn, they turn a gorgeous variety of orange and red hues before dropping. After shedding the leaves, it’ll reveal striking red-coloured branches for an attractive winter appearance.
From May to June, you can expect to see the plant grow small, creamy-white flowers, then white berries that will attract hungry birds. With its distinctive, scarlet-coloured stems, this shrub remains a beautiful and constantly changing fixture of your garden all 12 months of the year.
Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only - The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
Garden Plant Size Guide
Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
New stems produce the best winter colour, so prune back hard in March to promote fresh new growth.
How to Water
Water young plants regularly until they are well established. After this, dogwood is drought tolerant and only needs to be watered during particularly dry spells.
How to Plant
Choose a spot in full sun or partial shade and prepare the soil by removing weeds and adding organic matter. Dig a hole twice the size of the nursery pot, ensuring the soil is moist but well-draining. Place the plant in the hole and backfill with soil and compost, firming down gently as you go. Water in well.
