Product description

A UK bred fern, Dryopteris wallichiana 'Jurassic Gold' is also known as the alpine wood fern. A great option for container planting, this Dryopteris produces tall upright stems bearing pinnate fronds of yellow with tinges pale red. As the leaves mature, they lose the red hue with some remaining a bright golden yellow, and other continuing to change to a deep, glossy green.

Plant in moist, well-drained soil. Prefers moist, shaded sites in the garden such as those that the sun cannot reach and are difficult to use for most plant types. Tolerant of dry periods in the shade once properly established.

Instructions

Top Tip

Remove dead or damaged fronds in early spring to promote fresh growth and maintain the plant’s shape.

How to Water

Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods. Avoid waterlogging, as it can cause root rot. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.

How to Plant

Plant Dryopteris ferns in a shaded or partially shaded area with moist, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Dig a hole large enough for the root ball, place the plant, and backfill with soil. Space plants about 45-60cm apart. Water thoroughly after planting.
