A dwarf variety of evergreen Escallonia, the ‘Golden Carpet’ Is a low-growing, spreading shrub with bright yellow-green leaves which turns to a deep, rich lime green as Spring progresses into Summer, which also signals the beginnings of budding on the plant. A rich profusion of small, scented, tubular red flowers appear all over the plant among and above the foliage. A great option for low informal hedging or as groundcover.
Plant in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Keep in full sun in a sheltered position to protect from cold, drying winds. Drought tolerant once established and suitable for coastal regions.
