Fuchsia 'Riccartonii' is an upright, medium-sized deciduous shrub. This stunning variety produces an abundance of attractive, small, scarlet and dark purple pendulous blossoms amidst bronze tinted, deep green, elongated foliage. Long-flowering from June-October, it is ideal for adding a gorgeous splash of lasting colour to borders, pots or hanging baskets. In frost-free areas this hardy fuchsia makes a lovely, informal hedge.
It can be grown outdoors in fertile, moist, well-drained soil and in full sun or partial shade. During the growing season water regularly, applying a balanced liquid fertiliser each month. To encourage growth, pinch out the growing tips of young plants after the sixth or seventh pair of leaves. Cut back to permanent framework in early spring.
