Hakonechloa ‘Nicolas’ is a variety of the popular Japanese Forest Grass and is a striking addition to any garden display with its bright and colourful foliage. Long, narrow, arching mid-green leaves grow through the Spring and Summer and gain a flush of orange and red that arrives with the Autumn cold. A great choice for groundcover in and around the more shaded, damp areas of the garden or to fill out borders and beds.
Plant in moist, well-drained soil. Can be kept in sunny or shaded areas for different effects. Prefers shaded, moist areas and will thrive nicely in these locales. A low maintenance plant that will die back during the colder Winter months.

How to Water
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply during dry periods, especially in the first growing season, to help the plant establish. Mulching helps retain soil moisture and keeps roots cool.
How to Plant
Plant Hakonechloa in well-draining, fertile soil enriched with organic matter. Choose a spot with partial shade, as too much sun can scorch its leaves. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, place the plant, and backfill. Water well to help establish roots.
