Product description
Matteuccia Struthiopteris, also commonly known as the Shuttlecock Fern, is a deciduous, outdoor fern plant with classic green foliage. Leaves are lance-shaped and narrow, growing on erect stems which form a shuttlecock shape.
The Shuttlecock Fern will grow best in moist, well-drained soil and it will thrive best in a shady environment. They are excellent plants for adding colour and texture to partially sunny or shady borders and rock gardens or filling in gaps between trees and shrubs.
Please Note: Images are for illustrative purposes only and designed to be a representation of the item(s) being sold. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on seasonality, deciduous plants may be supplied in their dormant state and without leaves. Plants may also be pruned back, lower than stated heights, to encourage new growth.
Garden Plant Size Guide
Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Matteuccia plants thrive in moist, shaded areas, so choose a spot that mimics their natural woodland habitat for the best growth.
How to Water
Matteuccia ferns require consistently moist soil. Water regularly, especially in dry conditions, but avoid waterlogging. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and keep the roots cool.
How to Plant
Plant Matteuccia in a shady or partially shaded area with moist, well-draining soil. Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the root ball, and place the fern in the hole. Backfill with soil and water thoroughly after planting to settle the roots.
