Product description
Also known as Himalayan Poppies, Meconopsis Blue are summer flowering plants with lush green foliage. The flowers bloom at the top of tall stems for weeks before releasing their poppy seed and dying back until the following spring.
This bee friendly poppy plant brings colour and interest to the garden, returning year after year. Meconopsis Blue is most commonly used to add height to borders and flower beds, but it also grows well in pots and containers.
Blue poppy plants are ideal garden plants for shaded areas and are well suited to underplanting trees and shrubs. They flourish in areas with cooler summers and prefer a sheltered spot in partial shade.
Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
Garden Plant Size Guide
Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Meconopsis plants thrive in cool, humid climates and may need extra care in hotter regions, including partial shade and consistent moisture.
How to Water
Meconopsis prefer moist, cool conditions. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently damp, especially during dry periods. Avoid soggy soil, and ensure good drainage to prevent root rot. Mulch around the base to help retain moisture.
How to Plant
Plant Meconopsis in a cool, partially shaded area with well-draining, acidic soil. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, place the plant in the hole, and backfill with soil. Water thoroughly after planting and ensure it is sheltered from harsh winds.
