The dark red foliage emerges in spring, followed by the silvery-red bottlebrush shaped flowers in late summer to Autumn. The grass plant is not very hardy and requires shelter. It grows best in containers or in small gardens.
The grass enjoys full sun but needs protection. It needs well drained soil to grow well.

Garden Plant Size Guide
Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Cut back Pennisetum in late winter or early spring to remove dead foliage and encourage fresh growth.
How to Water
Water Pennisetum regularly during dry periods but ensure the soil is well-draining. Avoid overwatering, as they don’t like soggy roots. Water at the base to prevent wetting the foliage.
How to Plant
Plant Pennisetum in well-drained, slightly acidic soil in a sunny spot. Dig a hole that matches the root ball size and place the plant, ensuring it’s level with the ground. Space them about 45-60cm apart for proper air circulation.
