Product description

Redcurrant Laxton's Number One is a classic, heavy yielding redcurrant cultivar, producing long bunches of bright, crimson-red berries from mid-July. The flavoursome fruits are ideal for making jellies, desserts, wine, and can be frozen to use throughout the year.

This hardy garden shrub flowers late, making it perfect for parts of the country where late frosts are likely. It is the most mildew-resistant variety of redcurrant and thrives in moist, well-draining soil. Redcurrant Laxton's Number One prefers a sheltered, sunny spot and offers the biggest harvest when grown in full sun.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Prune Redcurrant plants after harvesting to remove old wood, encouraging better fruit production for the next season.

How to Water

Water Redcurrants regularly, especially during dry spells. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, ensuring good drainage to prevent root rot.

How to Plant

Plant Redcurrant bushes in a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-drained soil. Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the roots, then place the plant at the same depth it was in its pot. Backfill with soil, firm gently, and water well.
