Product description
Sambucus nigra 'Blue Sheen' is a deciduous upright shrub. A relatively new cultivar, the foliage of this variety is a striking pinkish/maroon, and it's upright nature ensures it grows narrow and tall, up to 4m. The spectacular colour is coupled with a distinct blue sheen when hit by the light, this eye-catching foliage lasts throught spring and summer, closely followed by small clusters of fragrant pink flowers. Ideal as part of a border or mixed hedge garden, this variety is suited to most soils and requires little to no pruning.
Garden Plant Size Guide
Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Prune Sambucus annually in late winter to maintain shape and encourage healthy new growth.
How to Water
Water Sambucus regularly, especially during dry spells. Keep the soil moist but not soggy, ensuring good drainage to prevent root rot. Once established, it is somewhat drought-tolerant.
How to Plant
Plant Sambucus in a sunny or partially shaded location with well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, place the plant, and fill with soil. Space plants 180-240cm apart, depending on variety.
