Product description

Saskatoon Honeywood is a versatile garden plant with plenty of ornamental, as well as culinary, value. It grows to be a large shrub or small tree, which makes an excellent statement in a small garden. In spring, the plant is covered in masses of small, white, star-shaped flowers that give way to deep blue berries in summer. The dark green foliage turns dramatic shades of orange and red producing vibrant autumn colour.

The berries themselves are flavoursome with a sweet taste. They can be enjoyed freshly harvested or used to make preserves, dessert fillings, or smoothies. Saskatoon berries are full of fibre, vitamin C, and antioxidants, making them a great choice for a healthy diet.

This fruit plant is easy to care for, demanding very little attention to thrive. As with many fruit plants, the best crop is achieved in full sun, but a decent harvest is still possible in partial shade. Plant saskatoon in moist but well drained soil in a spot out of strong winds. Pruning is only required occasionally to remove dead or damaged branches.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Amelanchier benefits from being pruned after flowering to maintain shape and encourage healthy growth.

How to Water

Water regularly, especially during dry spells, to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Amelanchier prefers evenly moist conditions, particularly when establishing roots.

How to Plant

Plant Amelanchier in well-draining, slightly acidic soil in a sunny or partially shaded location. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, place the plant, and cover with soil. Space them 120-150cm apart to allow room for growth.
