Product description

Saskatoon Martin is an early flowering cultivar that produces large, tasty berries in clusters throughout late June and July. This variety is renowned for its uniform ripening habit, making it a predictable and reliable cropper. Small, white, star-shaped flowers appear in early spring, before making way for the clusters of fruit. In autumn, the leaves turn a glorious shade of yellow, bringing vivid colour interest to the garden.

These saskatoon berries have a sweet flavour that makes them ideal for making preserves, dessert fillings, and smoothies. Also known as serviceberries or juneberries, they are bursting with antioxidants as well as fibre and vitamin C. Be warned that birds also find these delicious berries irresistible, so you may wish to protect them with a net or other covering.

Undemanding and easy to care for, Saskatoon Martin grows into a neat upright shrub. It reaches a maximum height of around 3.5m and makes an excellent feature tree for small gardens, particularly in full bloom.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Amelanchier benefits from being pruned after flowering to maintain shape and encourage healthy growth.

How to Water

Water regularly, especially during dry spells, to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Amelanchier prefers evenly moist conditions, particularly when establishing roots.

How to Plant

Plant Amelanchier in well-draining, slightly acidic soil in a sunny or partially shaded location. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, place the plant, and cover with soil. Space them 120-150cm apart to allow room for growth.
