Product description
A striking, hardy perennial shrub with beautiful colouration. The Strobilanthes ‘Brunetthy’ is a compact cultivar with lance-shaped, deep purple, near black, leaves which last throughout the seasons in mild weather. Lovely, tubular lilac blooms appear throughout the bush and contrast nicely with the darker foliage beneath. Its smaller habit and generally bushy, rounded shape make it an excellent option for container planting.
Plant in light, well-drained soil and keep in full or partial sunlight in a sheltered position. Can be kept outside overwinter in mild regions, but it is generally advised to overwinter indoors or under glass. Avoid excessive watering in the Winter.
Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may, therefore, differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. This plant will be supplied in a grower’s pot.
Garden Plant Size Guide
Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Prune Strobilanthes after flowering to maintain a neat shape and promote new growth. It can be grown as a perennial in mild climates but may need to be treated as an annual in colder areas.
How to Water
Water Strobilanthes regularly to keep the soil moist, especially in hot weather. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely. These plants thrive in consistently damp conditions but not waterlogged soil.
How to Plant
Plant Strobilanthes in a partly shaded spot with well-draining, fertile soil. Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball, place the plant, and backfill with soil. Water thoroughly after planting. Space plants 30-45cm apart for proper growth.
