Product description
Verbascum Dark Eyes, commonly known as Mullein, is a semi-evergreen perennial that is ideal for ground cover and filling gaps. Large textured dark green leaves grow into rosettes and tall stems spring from its centre, blooming saucer-shaped pale yellow flowers in early- to mid-summer. As the name would suggest, these flowers boast a dramatic deep red colour, appearing like Dark Eyes in the centre of each flower.
This clump forming perennial grows best in chalky, loamy soils that are well drained, even in winter. It prefers full sun, preferably in a south-facing spot and is relatively hardy, coping with temperatures as low as -10°C. Other than deadheading to prolong flowering, Verbascum Dark Eyes requires very little maintenance and is easy to grow, even for novice gardeners.
Mullein is tolerant of drought and copes well with poor soil. This is a highly adaptable plant that is ideal for flower beds, borders and gravel gardens. It also works well in containers.
Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only - The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
Garden Plant Size Guide
Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.
