Product description
Baby Cryptanthus Ruby Star, commonly known as Earth Stars, are small, indoor house plants with slender leaves which grow in a low rosette shape. Slender leaves are pink, with a dark stripe down the centre.
Place Baby Cryptanthus Ruby Star in an area where it will receive bright, but indirect sunlight, mimicking the rainforest canopy where they naturally grow in the wild. Since these plants are rainforest natives, they’re also humidity lovers, making excellent kitchen or bathroom plants. If kept elsewhere, they will benefit from some regular misting.
The miniature size of this baby plant makes it perfect for smaller homes and spaces. It would look fabulous in the living room, bathroom, or bedroom but a baby plant is particularly great as a desk plant to brighten up the office, or to add some décor to an empty shelf.
It’s not unusual to give your plant a name… so don’t hesitate to choose one that you think suits the plant! Try naming your plant with the first name or word that you think of when you look at it - that’s how we ended up with an orchid named Clover and spider plant called Joseph.
House Plant Size Guide
House plants come in a wide array of shapes and sizes depending on the variety and maturity of the plant.
6cm/12cm/15cm/19cm/23cm nursery pots are the most common size of pot that they are sold in. This measurement is the diameter at the top of the pot.
12cm potted plants are the most popular providing great value for money and an instant impact. Larger plants that come in pots of 20cm+ are great for making a statement in any room and can represent years of growth to get to that level of maturity and size.

Top Tip
Place Cryptanthus in a humid environment, such as a bathroom or near a humidifier, to replicate its tropical habitat. Rotate the pot every few weeks to encourage even growth and keep its rosette shape symmetrical. Clean the leaves gently with a damp cloth to maintain their vibrant colour and intricate patterns. With proper care, this compact plant will bring unique beauty to any indoor space.
How to Water
Water Cryptanthus sparingly, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. During the growing season, water every 1–2 weeks, ensuring excess water drains away to prevent root rot. Mist the plant occasionally to boost humidity, as Cryptanthus thrives in a humid environment. Reduce watering in the winter months when the plant’s growth slows, and always use filtered or rainwater to avoid mineral build-up.
How to Plant
To plant Cryptanthus, choose a shallow pot with excellent drainage and fill it with a well-draining, airy potting mix, such as one designed for bromeliads. Place the plant gently into the soil, ensuring the base of the rosette sits above the soil line, and firm the soil lightly around it. Water sparingly after planting, and position the pot in a location with bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
