Product description
Dieffenbachia Maculata Amy is the perfect plant. It is vibrant and makes a statement yet it is unassuming and definitely not flashy - this plant appears effortlessly cool! In the right conditions, Dieffenbachia Maculata Amy is simple to care for and doesn’t demand too much attention, making it ideal for experienced and new plant parents alike.
The large paddle-shaped leaves are bright green in colour and dappled with pale green and creamy hues that create a unique decorative effect. The foliage grows on stalks, which, if needed, can be pruned and the plant will quickly grow back.
Also known as Dumb Cane due to its sap, Dieffenbachia Maculata Amy can be toxic so is best kept out of reach of children and pets. No lasting damage will be done, but the sap can cause some swelling and discomfort if swallowed. Always wash your hands after coming into contact with the sap.
Growing your Dumb Cane from its baby stage and watching it mature over time, from a tiny leafy stem to a healthy, fully grown plant is a delight to witness.
It’s not unusual to give your plant a name… so don’t hesitate to choose one that you think suits the plant! Try naming your plant with the first name or word that you think of when you look at it - that’s how we ended up with an orchid named Clover and spider plant called Joseph.
House Plant Size Guide
House plants come in a wide array of shapes and sizes depending on the variety and maturity of the plant.
6cm/12cm/15cm/19cm/23cm nursery pots are the most common size of pot that they are sold in. This measurement is the diameter at the top of the pot.
12cm potted plants are the most popular providing great value for money and an instant impact. Larger plants that come in pots of 20cm+ are great for making a statement in any room and can represent years of growth to get to that level of maturity and size.

Top Tip
Keep Dieffenbachia in a warm, humid environment to replicate its tropical origins. Mist the leaves occasionally or use a pebble tray with water to increase humidity. Rotate the pot weekly to ensure even light exposure and prevent the plant from leaning. Clean the leaves regularly with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep its bold patterns bright and healthy. With proper care, this eye-catching plant will thrive as a stunning indoor feature.
How to Water
Water Dieffenbachia consistently, keeping the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry slightly between waterings to avoid overwatering, which can cause root rot. During the growing season, water more frequently, but reduce this in winter when growth slows. Always use lukewarm, filtered water, as this plant is sensitive to cold temperatures and chemicals in tap water.
How to Plant
To plant Dieffenbachia, select a pot with drainage holes and fill it with a nutrient-rich, well-draining potting mix, such as one designed for houseplants. Position the plant so its root ball sits level with the surface, ensuring the base of the stem is not buried. Backfill gently with soil, firm lightly, and water thoroughly to settle the roots. Place the pot in a spot with bright, indirect light to help maintain its vibrant foliage.
