Product description

Baby Polyscias Balfouriana is a small house plant which is native to islands in the South Pacific. These plants are like mini trees, with thick, woody stems like small tree trunks. Stems are covered with broad leaves which are dark green with creamy white edges.

Although they can adapt well to shade, these baby plants will grow best in bright, indirect light, away from any cold draughts. The soil should be kept moist at all times, but never waterlogged, and some regular misting will help these plants thrive.

The miniature size of this baby plant makes it perfect for smaller homes and spaces. It would look fabulous in the living room, as bedroom plants or bathroom plants, but a baby plant is also great as a desk plant to brighten up an office, or to brighten up a small shelf.

It’s not unusual to give your plant a name… so don’t hesitate to choose one that you think suits the plant! Try naming your plant with the first name or word that you think of when you look at it - that’s how we ended up with an orchid named Clover and spider plant called Joseph.

Instructions

Top Tip

Polyscias thrives in high humidity, so mist the foliage regularly or place the plant near a humidifier to keep it healthy. Avoid exposing it to cold drafts or direct sunlight, as these conditions can stress the plant. Rotate the pot occasionally to ensure even growth and maintain its attractive shape. With proper care, your Polyscias will become a stunning feature in your indoor space.

How to Water

Water Polyscias sparingly but consistently, allowing the top layer of soil to dry out slightly between waterings. During the growing season, ensure the soil remains evenly moist but never waterlogged. Reduce watering in the cooler months, as the plant will require less moisture. Always use lukewarm water and avoid letting the plant sit in standing water to prevent root rot.

How to Plant

To plant Polyscias, choose a pot with good drainage and use a well-draining soil mix, such as one designed for houseplants. Gently remove the plant from its nursery pot and loosen the roots slightly before placing it into the new container. Position the root ball so it sits at the same level as it was in its previous pot. Fill in with soil, firming it gently to secure the plant. Place your Polyscias in a location with bright, indirect light and maintain a warm, stable temperature for optimal growth.
