Product description
The Calathea Crocata is a heat loving attractive tropical indoor houseplant. This variety sports metallic green foliage with purple hues and brown undersides, the stems that tower above the bush bloom to reveal yellow and orange flowers resembling a flame, hence it's name 'Eternal Flame', these flowers last roughly 2-3 months and add a colourful and exotic feel to your home. They will also let you know when it's time for bed, as the leaves of this plant curl up at night before unfurling at the start of a new day. These plants hate direct sunlight so it's best to place in partially lit locations with some humidity.
Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves. Collections or 'mixed' listings for plants will be selected dependant on availability and carefully hand-picked to ensure their quality.
House Plant Size Guide
House plants come in a wide array of shapes and sizes depending on the variety and maturity of the plant.
6cm/12cm/15cm/19cm/23cm nursery pots are the most common size of pot that they are sold in. This measurement is the diameter at the top of the pot.
12cm potted plants are the most popular providing great value for money and an instant impact. Larger plants that come in pots of 20cm+ are great for making a statement in any room and can represent years of growth to get to that level of maturity and size.

Top Tip
Place your Calathea in a room with consistent humidity levels, such as a bathroom, or use a pebble tray to increase moisture around the plant. Rotate the pot weekly to encourage even growth, as the leaves naturally orient toward light sources. Wipe the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and maintain their vibrant patterns.
How to Water
Water Calathea consistently to keep the soil moist but not soggy. During the growing season (spring and summer), water when the top inch of soil feels dry, and reduce watering in autumn and winter. Use distilled or rainwater if possible, as Calathea is sensitive to chemicals in tap water. Avoid letting the plant sit in standing water, and empty the saucer after watering to prevent root rot. Mist the leaves regularly to maintain humidity, especially in dry environments.
How to Plant
To plant Calathea, select a pot with drainage holes and use a peat-based potting mix that retains moisture but drains well. Place the plant in a slightly larger pot if repotting, ensuring the roots are not too tightly packed. Avoid planting too deeply; keep the base of the stem level with the soil. Position the plant in a spot with indirect light, as direct sunlight can scorch its leaves. Ensure a warm and humid environment, as Calatheas thrive in temperatures between 18°C and 24°C.
