Product description

Coprosma Inferno grows well in pots and containers and is perfect for brightening up patios, driveways and terraces, as well as flanking entrances.

Also known as mirror plant, coprosma inferno is often grown as a shrub. However, trained into a patio tree shape, it makes an excellent year-round plant for garden design. Patio trees provide height and structure to an outdoor space and the evergreen nature of coprosma inferno provides plenty of colour interest throughout the year.

This patio tree has an exceptionally interesting colour scheme. In spring and summer, its glossy green leaves are edged in yellow-orange tones. The green is flushed with deep purple in autumn and winter when the edging turns a dramatic shade of red. Insignificant flowers and berries may appear on mature plants.

Place this patio tree in a sheltered spot in full sun or partial shade. Water frequently during hot, dry spells and provide additional insulation for pot grown plants in winter to protect the roots from frost damage.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Prune Coprosma lightly in late spring or early summer to maintain its shape and encourage dense, compact growth. Remove any damaged or wayward branches to keep the plant looking its best. Regular feeding with a balanced fertiliser in early spring can enhance its vibrant foliage, making it an attractive addition to borders or hedging.

How to Water

Water Coprosma deeply and consistently during its first growing season to help it establish strong roots. Once established, it becomes relatively drought-tolerant, requiring watering only during prolonged dry spells. Ensure the soil remains well-drained to avoid waterlogging, as Coprosma dislikes overly wet conditions. Early morning watering is best to allow the foliage to dry throughout the day, preventing fungal issues.

How to Plant

To plant Coprosma, select a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-draining soil, preferably with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and just as deep, ensuring the roots are not compressed. Place the plant in the hole, backfill with soil, and gently firm it down. Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Add a layer of mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, taking care to leave space around the trunk to prevent rot.
