Product description
Escallonia Pink Elle grows well in pots and containers and is perfect for brightening up patios, driveways and terraces, as well as flanking entrances.
Escallonia is often grown as a garden shrub. However, trained into a patio tree shape, it makes an excellent addition to any garden. Patio trees provide height and structure to an outdoor space, enhancing garden design and decorating areas of paving or decking.
This cultivar boasts glossy green, ovate leaves that remain in place throughout the year, providing winter colour and interest. Large clusters of small, five-petalled, mid-pink flowers adorn the foliage through summer and autumn.
This patio tree is hardy in milder parts of the UK, tolerating temperatures as low as -5 °C. Additional insulation is needed during the winter months to protect the roots against frost damage. Excallonia Pink Elle thrives in moist, well-draining soil and is happy in most soil types. Like all plants, pot-grown specimens do need to be watered more frequently. This potted tree tolerates partial shade but flourishes best placed in full sun.
Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Top Tip
Prune Escallonia in late spring or after flowering to maintain its shape and encourage bushy growth. Use sharp pruning tools to remove dead or damaged branches and lightly trim new growth for a neat appearance. Regular pruning will not only keep the plant looking tidy but also encourage more blooms in the following season. Escallonia thrives with minimal care and makes an excellent low-maintenance addition to any garden.
How to Water
Water Escallonia thoroughly after planting and during its first growing season to establish strong roots. Once established, these plants are drought-tolerant and require less frequent watering, but it’s important to water deeply during prolonged dry periods. Always check that the soil has partially dried out between waterings to avoid waterlogging, as this can damage the roots. Water early in the morning or late in the evening to minimise evaporation.
How to Plant
To plant Escallonia, select a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide and slightly deeper than the root ball, then gently position the plant so the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Backfill the hole, firming the soil around the roots, and water thoroughly to help it settle. Space plants approximately 45–60 cm apart if planting a hedge. Mulch around the base to conserve moisture and reduce weed growth, keeping it clear of the stem to avoid rot.
