Product description

Grape Black Hamburg is a strong growing cultivar with large lobed leaves and bunches of dark purple-red fruits in autumn. The grapes have thick skins and a sweet flavour and are often grown for wine making. However, they make an excellent table grape and are delicious fresh from the vine.

This variety crops outdoors in the UK only after long, hot summers, so is best grown in a polytunnel, greenhouse or conservatory for a reliable annual harvest. Grape Black Hamburg is a low maintenance grape vine that is easy to grow. It prefers a sunny, sheltered spot and thrives in well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil. Protect new growth from frost and mulch annually in spring to help retain moisture in the soil.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Prune grape vines in late winter to encourage healthy growth and improve fruit production.

How to Water

Water grapes regularly during dry spells, but ensure the soil drains well to avoid root rot. Water deeply but infrequently to encourage deep root growth. Reduce watering once the grapes start to ripen.

How to Plant

Plant grape vines in well-drained soil with full sun. Dig a hole large enough for the roots and space well apart. Place the plant in the hole, cover with soil, and firm it in. Water thoroughly to help establish roots.
