Product description

This compact Basil variety boasts aromatic foliage that is bursting with flavour. The leaves are small, neatly oval, and densely packed to form a bushy dome-shape. In summer, spikes of small white flowers appear. Leave these to go to seed if you wish to grow more Basil next year, or cut off as soon as the spikes appear to prevent bolting and prolong harvesting.

Greek Basil has a softer, somewhat sweeter flavour than other varieties and is well suited to stews, soups, and sauces. It is a flavoursome addition to salads and is a staple of Italian pizza, pasta, and pesto dishes.

Grow Greek Basil in well-draining, moderately fertile soil. The compact size and fragile nature of this cultivar makes it an excellent option for growing in the kitchen but it can be successfully grown outdoors in a warm, sunny, sheltered spot. Greek Basil is a cut and come again crop, so harvest little and often to promote plenty of fresh new growth.

Sow Greek Basil seeds indoors from April to May or outside from June (only in southern parts of the UK). Plant out from June, when the risk of frost has passed and allow 25cm between plants. Harvest from July to August.
