Top Tip
Prune Hebes lightly after flowering to maintain their shape and encourage bushy growth. Remove spent blooms and any dead or damaged stems to promote fresh flowers in the next season. Avoid heavy pruning into old wood, as this can limit regrowth. Hebes are great for coastal and wildlife-friendly gardens, providing year-round interest with their evergreen foliage and vibrant flowers.
How to Water
Water Hebes regularly after planting, especially during their first year, to help establish strong roots. In dry weather, ensure the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged. Once established, Hebes are relatively drought-tolerant and require less frequent watering, thriving in slightly dry conditions. Always water at the base of the plant and avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of fungal diseases.
How to Plant
To plant Hebes, choose a sunny or partially shaded location with well-draining soil, preferably neutral to slightly alkaline in pH. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and slightly deeper than its depth. Position the plant at the same depth as it was in its pot, backfill with soil, and firm gently. Water thoroughly after planting to help the roots settle. Space plants approximately 30–60 cm apart to allow for good air circulation, and apply a layer of mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds while keeping it clear of the base.
