Product description

With its scalloped, heart-shaped, scented leaves and sharp citrus flavour, Lemon Balm is a hardy perennial that makes a fantastic addition to any herb garden. Also known as Bee Balm, this bushy plant throws up summer flowers that attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators to your outdoor space.

The leaves of the Lemon Balm plant can be used in various drinks and dishes, making a tasty lemon tea or adding plenty of tangy flavour to soups, stews, and sauces. In summer they can be used to garnish and flavour drinks or to add some zing to salads, fish, or chicken.

Grow Lemon Balm in a sheltered spot in full sun or partial shade in well-draining soil. Letting the plants flower and go to seed late in the season practically ensures you’ll have an even bigger crop the following year. If you’d prefer not to let the plant self-seed, cut back hard after flowering to promote bushy new growth. Lemon Balm is a vigorous grower and, like mint, can become invasive. For this reason, it’s best to grow these seeds in pots or planters.

Sow Lemon Balm seeds indoors from March to April or outside from May. Plant out from May, when the risk of frost has passed and allow 30cm between plants. Harvest from June to October.
