Product description
Picea Abies, commonly known as Norway Spruce, are a variety of outdoor trees which can be recognised all over the world as one of the most popular choices of Christmas tree. However, these trees are perfect for growing as hedging plants too. Deep green, evergreen foliage grows densely and remains all year, accompanied by relatively large cones hanging delicately from the branches.
These trees grow in a conical shape, and the dense foliage is perfect for creating a windbreak in the garden. They are relatively easy to grow in full sun to partial shade and in slightly acidic soil. They are hardy and can survive very cold winters, and once established they won’t even require regular watering.

Top Tip
Trim Norway spruce hedges annually in spring to promote plenty of fresh new bushy growth.
How to Water
Water well when planting and regularly for the first year, especially during hot weather. Once established, Norway spruce is drought-tolerant and only needs to be watered during particularly dry spells.
How to Plant
Plant Norway spruce in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-draining soil. Soak the roots while you dig a V-shaped trench, allowing plenty of space for the roots to spread out. You may wish to use a piece of string to ensure the trench is straight. Lightly trim the roots to promote fresh growth and position them in the trench, allowing 40-60cm between plants. It’s worth noting that plants spaced closer together will form a dense hedge quicker. Backfill the trench with soil and compost, firming down gently as you go, and water in well.
