Top Tip
Prune roses annually in late winter or early spring, cutting back to outward-facing buds to encourage open growth and improve air circulation. Remove dead or damaged wood and spent blooms to promote vigorous flowering. Feed your roses with a balanced fertiliser in spring and again after their first flush of blooms to ensure healthy growth and abundant flowers.
How to Water
Water roses deeply and consistently, especially during their first growing season and dry spells. Roses thrive with regular watering to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. It’s best to water at the base of the plant early in the morning or late in the evening, avoiding wetting the foliage to prevent fungal diseases. Established roses require less frequent watering but still benefit from deep soaking during prolonged dry weather.
How to Plant
To plant roses, choose a sunny spot with well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and deep enough so the graft union (where the stems join the rootstock) sits just below the surface. Before planting, soak the roots in water for a few hours. Position the rose in the hole, backfill with soil, and gently firm it down. Water thoroughly to settle the soil and mulch around the base, keeping the mulch away from the stems to prevent rot.
